North County Radiology, center for dialysis access care, is an outpatient clinic providing general radiology, fluoroscopy, computerized tomography (CT), ultrasound, angiography and interventional radiological procedures. The Center for Dialysis Access Care is dedicated to providing state of the art management for dialysis and vascular access related problems. Interventional Radiology is a subspecialty of Radiology. Physicians trained in interventional radiology perform procedures for the diagnosis and / or treatment of certain vascular and non-vascular conditions without the need for more invasive surgery or general anesthesia. This is accomplished through small catheters that are guided to a target by x-ray. Most interventional procedures can be performed through a tiny skin incision (less than half a centimeter) using local anesthesia and intravenous analgesia and sedation. Since general anesthesia is not needed, the recovery period is shorter than after surgery. Many of the interventional procedures can be performed safely on outpatients in our specialized outpatient Interventional Radiology Clinic, similar to the concept of outpatient surgery. Interventional Radiology provides an alternative for many medical and surgical therapies. Interventional procedures are cost effective, can avoid hospitalization and have superior patient acceptance and lower patient risk than surgery.
